Congratulations, Principal Quinn!

Congratulations, Principal Quinn!

Dear Dawes Families -

It is with great pleasure that I announce Teresa Quinn as the appointed principal of Dawes Elementary! Ms. Quinn’s enthusiasm, student centered leadership, and dedication to high-quality instruction have been so valuable over her time at District 65, especially the past three years as Assistant Principal and Interim Principal. I’m grateful for her consistent leadership and deep commitment to serving the Dawes community. Her appointment was approved by the School Board at tonight’s meeting and will go into effect on July 1.

We are grateful for the staff and families who gave their feedback as part of our community survey and for those who served on the interview panel. We heard the desire for a leader who communicates effectively, empowers all staff, and values diversity. Principal Quinn has shown herself to be extremely capable in all three of those areas. She has always been deeply passionate about developing rigorous curriculum that engages all learners and closing the opportunity gap for our Black and Brown students.

Ms. Quinn began her District 65 career 15 years ago as a school social worker. As part of the District 65 Aspiring Leaders program, prior to becoming Assistant Principal at Dawes, she worked with a D65 principal mentor to prepare for a school leadership role. Her background in social work is evident in her clear commitment to inclusive school environments and Individualized Education Services. She has also played a vital role in working with the district in developing the implementation of Restorative Practices and revision of our discipline policies.

One of my core beliefs is that it is our job to provide our school leaders with the support and resources needed to ensure that our schools are joyful, vibrant centers of learning. We will continue to support Ms. Quinn and the educators and staff of Dawes as they engage in their summer planning to ensure a strong start to the new school year!

Please stay tuned for a follow-up message from Principal Quinn. Alongside Assistant Principal Susana Yépez, Dawes is in great hands! Best wishes for a fun, safe, joyful summer!
